Bill and Mavis Tobin on the French
Riviera
We got lucky and were able to be on the red carpet
at the Film Festival de Cannes but what we didn't realize was that very few films shown there are American and that the commentary,
etc., would of course all be in French. So we just smiled and waved at people we never heard of and didn't recognize. Probably
big film stars in somebody's eyes but not ours. We did see Glenn Close and Paris Hilton and had lunch at a posh restaurant
across the street from the main theater. Everyone around us were wearing those admission badges indicating they were somebody
special in the movie biz but nobody we would recognize.
The weather on the this trip was absolutely marvelous throughout
our entire stay. I think I may have accidentally even learned a French word or two. Mavis had taken French in school so she
was to be our translator. Unfortunately, about the only words she could remember translated roughly into "your elephant
has a croissant on its ear". Oh well.
This picture was taken at the Cafe de
Paris, next door
to the Casino Royale in Monte Carlo, as
I was presented the check for lunch.
.
This is my appeasing dessert,
ordered to bring my blood
pressure back to normal.
And finally, a shot in front of my
boat before we left... or at least it was my boat in many subsequent dreams. To "celebrate" my 65th, Mavis and I will be returning to
Europe in September (2010) and visiting Scandinavia--specifically Denmark and Sweden.
