Bruce Wride Shares his Birthday .
In December, 1989, our
daughter called to wish Bruce a happy birthday. Once she said "Happy Birthday, Grandpa," it took us a second to realize what she was really saying--she had just given birth to her first child, and our first grandchild, on Bruce's birthday!
So here they are, in 2009, celebrating Bruce's 65th and Tatiana's 20th birthdays.
Zippety Livingstone Earns Permanent Place on Mainstream
Human Page
Well, I'm about as excited as I can be. From what I understand, March 24 was my birthday. I
hear I am now either 10 years old, or 70, and don't ask me to explain that? But,
since one of the answers is 70, I guess I really do more than qualify for this page. Now the reason that I didn't send
something in when I was 65 is that the years go by so fast, I didn't know when
that was, because I don't have a calendar, and even if I did--I don't think this page was here yet --so I guess it's "better
late than never."

Thanks to John for supplying this treasure - 4 lifelong friends,
turning 65 years old .... That's almost 260 years' worth of Bruin friendship!
Picture was taken at Mike and Jan Morrissey's house in LB. The matching shirts were Dave Downing's idea; he designed
them and had them made. John and Mike share a late April birthday; David and Dave are not far behind (still youngsters
until this fall.) This same bunch came together to celebrate "50" in 1995. Keep up this cool tradition,
please!

How very cool. The boys look great. It's amazing how
long you guys have been hanging out. Lots of stories to tell, memories to share, good, good times. I've shared a lot of them. .
So
here's my birthday story. I turned 65 in early March, a few days after Dave McDermid did. My wife Linda surprised me
with a trip to our favorite getaway spot, Maui. While there in the past I have come to love to ride my bike
around the west part of Maui. It's a long memorable, tough ride along coast lines, above cliffs, past beautiful beaches
and thru much of rural Maui. On
this trip I celebrated my birthday in part by making that ride. It was an epic day. Screaming headwinds, constant drenching tropical rain squalls that were
so refreshing, no cars or other riders, a sky full of fast moving clouds.
In the above picture, I stopped
near the top of a long climb for a picture, a memento. In the near background is a memorial to someone lost. In the distant
background way down the hill is a school bus, careening down towards a village six miles away on the coast. The
bus had just passed me on the climb and all the kids had stuck their heads out the window and screamed encouragement and curiosity
about what they hell was I doing way out here. Catching the bus in the picture is a cool coincidence, now part of
a memory I will hold close. Best wishes, my friends
JANE WELCH SPRAGUE CROSSES "SAFARI" OFF BUCKET LIST
For my 65th birthday I traveled to Southern
Africa to fullfill one more item on my bucket list, an African Safari. 19 days in Bostwana, Chobe Reserve; Namibia,
Caprivi National Park; Zimbabwe, Hwenge Reserve and the Okovanga Delta. Saw a million animals, met many of the villagers
and visited an elementary school.
Took over 3000 pictures (can view a sample of 100 on my facebook). It was
a trip of a life time and the best gift I ever gave myself.
(See more of Jane's trip on "Traveling
Bruins" page.)
AND, SPEAKING OF "BUCKET LISTS" ....
As he did five years ago, our ultimate Travelin'
Man (John Mauger) has spent most of the year leading up to his milestone birthday (October) on the go. Details of his
95-day cruise (40,000 land/sea/air miles combined) around Asia will be found in our new travel section. In
August, he will cross the North Atlantic from the British Isles to Iceland, Greenland, Canada and New York - "leaving
only India and Africa to complete the world." THEN
WHAT? Some space station?
(For more on John's trip, see the "Traveling Bruins" page.)
