THE DOCTOR IS IN!

Scroll down to refresh your memory about our lovely 2010 Scholarship Recipient, Karryssa Fenderson.  Her devoted fan, Mr. Wille, has kept tabs on her in the past six years, and just shared this picture she posted on Facebook this past week.  Her caption, " We DID IT!  Our first surgery is done and done."   Zippety and her friends will be so excited!

2010 RECIPIENT OF THE LEGACY OF '63 AWARD

KARRYSSA WITH PROUD FAMILY - BROTHER SEAN, AND MOM, KAREN

Karryssa writes:  "Receiving this award is especially significant to me because my AP Environmental teacher, Mr. Wille, is a member of this graduating class. The Wilson High Alumni saw me as the next link to the "Legacy of '63," and I feel truly honored to be held in such a light. This award has allowed me to alleviate some of my expenses to attend Cornell University in the fall.

I have the greatest appreciation for any and all involved in deeming me the recipient of this award for the 2010 school year! With the support of the Class of '63 and my family, I will surely make the honor worthwhile by pursuing my Bachelor's degree in the Animal Sciences, and continuing on to earn the title of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine."  (She added that she LOVES our Precious Pets Section!)

MR. WILLE'S * TWO CENTS' WORTH:

"I can't tell you how excited I was when Karryssa won this year's scholarship.  I work with these students daily and get to know them quite well by June and let me tell you, Karryssa is ONE OF THE MOST OUTSTANDING STUDENTS  I've had in my twenty-three years of teaching. She almost always scored the highest on unit exams (she was once beat out by a student who will be attending Harvard in the fall!) and finished the year with a 100+% average.  As you may already know, she maintained a straight-A average all four years at Wilson and was one of our gold-robe wearing valedictorians.

But there is much more to Karryssa than a brilliant mind.  She was quite active on campus in a variety of service clubs, other students tell me she pushed the limits in her workouts for cross country and track, and she enjoys spending her free time horseback riding.  One of my favorite adjectives
also describes Karryssa - unpretentious.  Always low-key and under the radar, she was never one for self-promotion, just quietly getting the job done with high quality above and beyond the call of duty.  Oh, and she has one more shining quality, her favorite food is ice cream!  What an outstanding young person.  Someday I hope to be as mature! "

* Note:  His students always call him 'Mr. Wille' ... those of us who have known him for almost 50 years are allowed to call him ... Mr. Wille.  :-)
